What happens after I have been selected to the 38G program?

Un-Official Communication: Inquire about the 38G Group Chat–Incoming channel on Signal

1. Proponent Notification
You will receive an email from the proponent congratulating you on your selection and providing a list of next steps. Save this email—it contains critical guidance.

Included in that message will be a document titled: 38G_FAQ_ASOF20240924.pdf

This FAQ is highly informative and worth printing for future reference.

2. Recruiter Assignment
Your information will be forwarded to Human Resources Command (HRC), they will assign you an AMEDD recruiter. This takes what it takes. The process does not start until a recruiter has been assigned (could be months).

The recruiter will guide you through the following steps:

  • Fingerprinting
  • MEPS (Medical Examination Processing)
  • Initiation of your security clearance. The ACE application provided in the initial email will help you get started. Note: If you have a clearance already, refer to the Exhibit on Security Clearances.

Note: The duration of this process varies widely. Each candidate progresses at a different pace—don’t worry if yours doesn’t match someone else’s timeline.

The recruiter will get you access to: https://secure.goarmy.com/my.policy where you will populate your security questionnaire.

3. Packet Review & Commissioning Paperwork
Once your information is compiled, it will be sent back to the proponent for review. If everything is in order, you’ll receive a set of forms for commissioning, including:

  • DA 3574 – Certificate of Acknowledgment and Understanding of Service Requirements
  • DA 3575 – For prior service candidates only
  • DA 4572 – Statement of Understanding
  • DA 61 – Application for Appointment

4. Offer Letter & DA 71

After you complete and return these forms, the proponent will submit them to HRC. You’ll then receive an offer letter and the DA 71 (Oath of Office). This must be signed in the presence of a commissioned officer (active or retired) and returned to the proponent.

5. Unit Assignment & BA Eligibility

Within 2–3 weeks of submitting your DA 71, you should receive official orders assigning you to a unit. At this point, you may begin participating in Battle Assemblies (BAs).

6. DCC & B-LOC Orders
HRC will also issue orders for your required schools via ATRRS:

  • Direct Commission Course (DCC) – Conducted through AMEDD (as Civil Affairs does not have its own)
  • Basic Officer Leadership Course (B-LOC)

These school assignments are handled automatically on your behalf.
